Van Tech Music Program Recognition
At the time of graduation, a pin will be awarded to students who have met the criteria recognizing participation, commitment, and leadership within the music program.
Changes for Next School Year/2024 - Students accrue points towards the awarding of pin as follows:
Enrolment/Participation in Concert Band, Jazz Band, String Orchestra, Chamber Choir or Vocal Jazz – 3
Enrolment/Participation in Concert Choir – 2
Participation in a full year of Symphony Orchestra (Jr. or Sr.) – 1
Participation in a full year of Chamber Winds or Chamber Strings – 1
Participation in a district, honour, or provincial ensemble – 1 per ensemble
(Jr & Sr) Assistant Section Leaders – 1
(Jr & Sr) Section Leaders – 2
Ensemble Managers/Librarians/Stage Managers – 1
Senior Leaders (on Jr. Music Tours) – 1 (per tour)
MusCo Executives – 2
Major Music Awards – 2
Bronze Pin – 12 points
Silver Pin – 22 points
Gold Pin – 32 points
Diamond Pin – 55+ points
An Emerald/Talisman Music Pin is also awarded to:
Students elected to the Music Council Executive;
Van Tech Music teachers;
Van Tech Principal & Vice-Principals; and
Upon recommendation of the Music Council, individuals who are deserving of special recognition for their support, dedication, loyalty, or unique contributions to the Van Tech Music Program.
Students must track their own points. Pins will be awarded at the Spring/Semester End Concert(s) by the Music Teachers to graduating recipients as well as by the outgoing Music Council President to the incoming Music Council Executive.
Additional Special Recognition pins may only be presented at a school concert or special event.
