Beginner Strings (BSO)
Grade 8-11 students with no music experience (Mon/Wed 3:30-4:50pm)
This is an introductory course to instrumental technique on the violin, viola, cello, or double bass for students with no previous experience with an orchestral string instrument. Students will also be introduced to music theory, music reading, and ear training. Previous musical experience on another instrument is helpful but not necessary. Beginner Strings is a subsection of Intermediate Strings and will slowly be integrated into the larger ensemble as the course progresses. Students are admitted at the discretion of the director and are mentored with more experienced members of the orchestra. Students in this course are invited to participate in the annual Junior Music Tour. Participation in concert performances is an expectation of this course. Concerts will take place both during the school day and outside of regular school hours.
