VT STEP
The VT STEP program is a transitional program that gives students in grades 6-7 an opportunity to learn music. Kids learn to play classical string instruments in a group setting. Classes are held once a week after school on Fridays from either October or January, depending on which class, at Van Tech. This program gives kids an introduction to the Van Tech music program and a look at what high school orchestra classes are like. Students will perform alongside Van Tech’s string orchestra music groups at the end of year concert.
First year class (STEP 1)- For students who have never done VT STEP before, nor any private string lessons (Fridays, 3:30-4:50pm, starting January, ending June)
This is an introductory music class. This course will teach music notation and basics of music theory for those who have never learned. Students will play beginner level pieces of music and pieces our beginner string orchestra might play. Students will play on a string instrument of their choice. Registration for this class is open until December 10th, classes start January 19th 2024. Second year class (STEP 2)- For students who have had previous experience with the VT STEP Program or have had prior private string lessons (Fridays 3:30-4:50pm, starting October, ending June) This is a music class for those who already have some experience playing a string instrument through VT STEP, or the equivalent of 5 or more months of private lessons. This course will look at slightly harder pieces of music and pieces at a similar level to our junior string orchestra. Students will play on a string instrument of their choice. |
